Same Day Dental Implants in Albania: What Teeth in a Day Really Means

A patient wrote to us last month with a screenshot of an advert. Fixed teeth in one day, it said, above a photograph of somebody with a perfect smile. She wanted to know whether it was medicine or marketing.

It is a fair question and it deserves a proper answer. Same day dental implants are real. The technique has been in routine clinical use for more than twenty years and it works extremely well for the right patient. What the adverts leave out is that it does not apply to everybody, and that leaving the clinic with teeth is not the same thing as finishing treatment.

Here is how it actually works at Andent Dental Clinic in Tirana.

What Are Same Day Dental Implants?

Same day dental implants means the implants are placed into the jaw and a fixed bridge is screwed onto them during the same appointment, usually within a few hours of the surgery. You walk out with teeth that do not come out at night and that you can smile with immediately. The clinical name for this is immediate loading.

The word to pay attention to is loading. It refers to putting the implant to work, asking it to carry a bite force, straight away rather than waiting for it to heal untouched under the gum.

What it does not mean is that your treatment is complete. The bridge fitted on the day is a provisional. It is strong, it looks good, and it is made to be lived in, but it is acrylic rather than zirconia and it is designed to serve you for a few months while the bone fuses to the titanium underneath.

That fusion process is called osseointegration and it takes three to four months. Nobody can shorten it. Your permanent bridge is made and fitted afterwards, on a second visit.

Any clinic telling you that you will receive final, permanent implant teeth in a single week is either describing a provisional and calling it final, or it is skipping a step you would rather it did not skip.

Who Actually Qualifies for Immediate Loading?

The deciding factor is something called primary stability. When an implant is inserted, it either locks firmly into the bone straight away or it sits with a degree of give.

Our surgeons measure this during the operation, with a torque reading and often with a resonance frequency device that gives a numeric stability score.

If the reading is high, we load immediately. If it is marginal, we do not, and we protect the implant under the gum instead while it heals.

That decision is made in theatre, with the implant already in place, which is precisely why an honest clinic will not promise you same day teeth before it has seen your CT scan and, in borderline cases, before surgery has begun.

Dense Bone

The front of the lower jaw is the densest bone in the mouth and it loads immediately more often than anywhere else. The back of the upper jaw, near the sinus, is the softest and the most cautious zone.

Several Implants Splinted Together

This is the big one. A full arch case such as All-on-4 or All-on-6 joins four or six implants together with a single rigid bridge.

They share the load, they brace each other against movement, and micro movement is the thing that stops an implant integrating. Full arch cases are designed around immediate loading and the great majority of ours are loaded on the day.

A Normal Bite

Heavy grinders generate forces well beyond ordinary chewing, and they get a more conservative protocol along with a night guard.

Good General Healing

Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes both slow bone healing. Neither rules you out of implants, but both push us towards a staged approach where the implant heals undisturbed first.

No Graft at the Same Site

If a bone graft or sinus lift was needed to create the bone the implant sits in, that graft needs to mature. Immediate loading is usually off the table in those cases.

Single Tooth in a Day or Full Arch in a Day?

These are genuinely different propositions and it is worth being clear about which one you are being offered.

Full arch is where same day treatment shines. If you have lost most or all of the teeth in an arch, or your remaining teeth are beyond saving, a four or six implant bridge fitted the same day is transformative.

You arrive with failing teeth or a loose denture and you leave, that afternoon, with a fixed bridge.

A single missing tooth is a harder ask. One implant carries the entire bite force in that spot with nothing to share it with.

For a front tooth, where the forces are lighter and the aesthetic need is urgent, we very often do load immediately, sometimes with a crown kept slightly out of the bite so it looks right without being chewed on.

For a lower molar, where you can generate several hundred newtons of force without thinking about it, we usually will not. The risk is not worth the convenience, and the tooth is not visible anyway.

How Many Days in Tirana Will You Need?

First Trip

The first trip is roughly four to five days for a full arch case.

• Day 1: Examination, CT scan and digital planning.
• Day 2: Surgery, including any required extractions.
• Day 3: Fixed provisional bridge fitting.
• Day 4: Review and bite adjustment.

You then fly home and heal for around four months, staying in contact with the clinic by message and photo if anything comes up.

Second Trip

The second trip is roughly five days. It includes impressions, a framework try-in, an aesthetic try-in where you approve the appearance before it is finished, the final fit, and a review.

Single implant cases are shorter. Around two days on the first trip and three on the second.

What Do Same Day Dental Implants Cost in Albania?

Same day treatment is not billed as a premium. You are paying for the implant work, and the immediate provisional bridge is part of the full arch package rather than an optional extra.

The equivalent full arch treatment in the UK commonly runs from £9,000 to £15,000 per arch, and in Italy or Germany from €8,000 to €14,000. The materials are the same and often come from the same manufacturers. What differs is what it costs to run a clinic in Tirana rather than in London or Milan.

Your implant brand also moves the price, and it is worth understanding those tiers before you compare quotes.

Prices and treatment suitability depend on the individual clinical case, implant system, bone condition and whether additional procedures are required. Your final treatment plan should be confirmed after clinical assessment and diagnostic imaging.

Living With a Provisional Bridge for Four Months

This is the part patients ask least about and think about most once they are home.

Eating

You eat a softer diet. Nothing you have to tear, no hard crusts, no ice, no nuts.

Cut food smaller than you normally would and chew evenly on both sides rather than favouring one. The bridge is strong enough for ordinary eating but it is acrylic, and acrylic will chip if you attack a bone with it.

Cleaning

Cleaning underneath matters more than cleaning the surface. A fixed bridge sits slightly clear of the gum and food gets under it.

A water flosser aimed along that gap, once a day, plus interdental brushes, will keep the tissue healthy while the implants integrate.

Most people adapt within about ten days and stop thinking about it entirely.

Should You Choose a Clinic Because It Offers Same Day Implants?

No. Choose the clinic for the surgery.

Any competent implant clinic will load immediately when the bone allows it and will decline when it does not. It is a standard technique, not a proprietary one.

What varies between clinics is planning quality, sterilisation standards, the surgeon’s experience, the lab, and whether anybody tells you the truth when the answer is unwelcome.

The clinic that concerns me is the one promising fixed teeth in a day before it has seen a single image of your jaw.

That promise cannot be made honestly at that stage. It is a booking tactic, and the patients it hurts are the ones who fly out expecting one thing and discover another once they are in the chair.
