Booking your flights: the right order of operations
The most common planning mistake international patients make is booking flights before confirming the treatment schedule with the clinic. The number of days required in Tirana varies by treatment: crowns typically need 4 to 5 days, implants need 5 to 6 days, and All-on-4 procedures need 6 to 8 days. Confirm your treatment plan and dates with Andent Clinic first, then book flights to match the clinical schedule rather than trying to compress treatment into flights you have already purchased.

Free airport transfer
included for every patient

Arriving in a country you have never visited, carrying luggage, after a flight, without knowing where the clinic or your coordinated accommodation is, can be stressful. The free airport transfer removes that part of the journey.

When you confirm your booking with Andent Clinic, your coordinator organises a driver to meet you at the arrivals hall of Tirana International Airport. Your name is on a sign. No waiting at a taxi rank, no negotiating a fare, no trying to navigate an unfamiliar city from a phone screen. You walk out, get in, and arrive at the clinic or your coordinated accommodation.

The return transfer is also included. When your treatment is complete, your coordinator arranges the car back to the airport for your departure day. You do not need to think about transport at either end of your trip.

1

Send your flight details to the coordinator

WhatsApp or email your flight number and arrival time before you travel. This is usually confirmed when the treatment schedule is finalised.

2

The driver tracks your flight in real time

If your flight is delayed, the driver knows. You will not land to find no one waiting because your flight arrived 40 minutes late.

3

Look for the sign with your name

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a printed card showing your name. No pre-arranged meeting point, no phone calls to find each other.

4

20 minutes to the clinic or coordinated accommodation

The journey from the airport to central Tirana takes 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic. Your coordinator is reachable by WhatsApp for any questions on the way.

Getting around the city
during your stay

Tirana is a compact and easy-to-navigate city for international visitors. Most of what dental patients need is walkable from the clinic and coordinated accommodation. For longer journeys, transport options are affordable, practical, and reliable.

Uber and ride-hailing apps
Uber is available in Tirana, affordable, and reliable. The app works in a familiar way for international visitors. For most short journeys around the city centre, it is one of the simplest options for patients and companions.
3 to 6 € per trip within the city
Local taxis
Taxis are widely available throughout Tirana and cost much less than in major Western European cities. It is best to agree the fare before getting in or ask the driver to use the meter. Your coordinator can help call a trusted taxi service if needed.
4 to 8 € typical in-city fare
Walking
The central area around Andent Clinic is easy to walk. Pharmacies, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, ATMs, and daily services are close by. On days when you feel well enough, many movements between your coordinated accommodation and the clinic can be done without transport.
Free · many services are walkable
City buses
Local buses cover most of Tirana and fares are very low. The system may be less intuitive for first-time visitors, but for patients staying longer who want to explore different areas of the city, it can be a practical option once routes are understood.
0.30 to 0.50 € per trip

Currency
Albania’s official currency is the Albanian lek (ALL). Euros are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, clinics, and visitor-focused businesses. ATMs are common and accept international cards. It is recommended to inform your bank before travelling.
Electricity and plugs
Albania uses standard European two-pin plugs, Type C and F, 220V 50Hz. Patients from most European countries usually do not need a special adaptor. Visitors from the UK should bring a European travel adaptor.
Mobile coverage and SIM
EU and UK roaming rules do not automatically apply in Albania, so roaming charges may apply depending on your mobile plan. Check with your provider before travelling. A local prepaid SIM card can be bought at the airport for a few euros and provides good 4G coverage in the city.
Healthcare access
The European Health Insurance Card is not valid in Albania. Travel insurance with medical emergency cover is recommended. During your stay, the Andent clinical team is your first point of contact for any treatment-related concern.
Entry requirements
Citizens of EU member states, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and most Western countries do not require a visa to enter Albania for stays of up to 90 days. A valid passport or accepted national ID card is usually sufficient.
Climate and what to pack
Tirana has a Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry, spring and autumn are mild, and winters are cool with occasional rain. Bring light clothing for summer, a light jacket for spring and autumn, and sunscreen if you plan to spend time outdoors.

Tirana: the city you did not
expect to love this much

Most patients arrive in Tirana having formed their expectations from a combination of the word Albania and a vague memory of news from the 1990s. Most of them leave with a very different impression. Tirana has been transforming rapidly for the past two decades, and the city that exists today is vibrant, relatively affordable, safe, and genuinely interesting.

The food is the most consistent surprise. Albanian cuisine draws on Mediterranean, Balkan, and Ottoman influences in ways that produce dishes of real quality. Grilled meats, local dairy, fresh vegetables, and fish from the Adriatic coast all feature prominently. A three-course meal with wine at a good restaurant in the Blloku district costs 15 to 25 euros per person. The equivalent in London or Zurich would cost three to four times as much.

The history of the communist era is more present in Tirana than most visitors expect, and it is handled with intelligence. The Bunk’Art museums, the former Sigurimi building, and the various communist-era monuments still standing across the city provide a layer of 20th-century history that is genuinely worth engaging with. The National History Museum on Skanderbeg Square has recently been renovated and is one of the better national history museums in the region.

For patients staying 5 to 7 days, the city provides more than enough to fill the time between appointments. Day trips to the beach at Durrës, the medieval castle at Krujë, or the Ottoman bazaar town of Berat are all easily manageable and add a travel dimension to what is otherwise a medical trip.

Daily costs in Tirana
are roughly 40% of London

One of the unexpected advantages of travelling to Tirana for dental treatment is that the cost of living during your stay adds very little to the overall trip budget. Food, transport, and entertainment in Tirana are substantially cheaper than in any major Western European city.

A patient from London staying in the partner hotel, eating out twice a day, and using Uber for occasional trips should expect to spend 30 to 50 euros per day on living costs. For a 7-night stay that totals 210 to 350 euros on daily living, comparable to a modest budget holiday in a European city.

The arithmetic of the total trip cost is important. Many patients focus on the treatment price and forget to add the living costs for a week in Tirana. Even with living costs added, the total remains dramatically lower than the treatment price alone in the UK or Germany.

Estimated total non-treatment trip cost (7 nights, 1 person)

Why Tirana’s location makes the entire dental tourism model work

There is a geography argument behind every successful dental tourism destination, and Albania’s is unusually strong. Tirana sits at the centre of a triangle formed by the three largest concentrations of high dental prices in Europe: the United Kingdom to the northwest, Germany and Switzerland to the north, and Scandinavia further north still. All three are within 3 hours of Tirana by direct flight. All three have private dental prices that are three to five times higher than Tirana for the same materials and implant brands.

The combination of proximity and price difference is what separates Albania from other dental tourism destinations. Hungary, which has a longer dental tourism history, is close to Germany but less well-connected to the UK. Turkey offers lower prices but the flight from Northern Europe is longer and the implant brand ecosystem is different. Albania is close enough that a Monday morning flight and a Friday afternoon return is a realistic working-week schedule for someone who needs to minimise time away from their job.

How far is Andent Clinic from the airport in Tirana?
Andent Dental Clinic is approximately 20 to 25 minutes by car from Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA). The clinic is located in the central Blloku district of Tirana. A free airport transfer is included for all international patients. A driver with the patient’s name meets arrivals at the airport hall and drives directly to the clinic or partner hotel depending on the time of arrival and the day’s schedule.

The practical infrastructure around Andent Clinic in central Tirana reflects 18 years of serving international patients specifically. The hotel partnership, the airport transfer protocol, the multilingual coordination team, and the in-house laboratory turnaround time are all features that exist because the clinic has spent nearly two decades understanding what international patients need that local patients do not. A local patient can come back in two weeks for a minor adjustment. An international patient needs everything resolved within the visit.

For patients researching dental tourism destinations, the question of location is really a question of friction. How many connections does the journey require? How long does the travel take? How familiar and navigable is the city at the other end? On all three measures, Tirana performs well for the primary European patient markets. It is a direct flight from most of Western Europe, the journey is under three hours from London, and the city is safe, compact, and more English-friendly than its reputation suggests.

Is Tirana safe for UK and European dental tourists?
Yes. Albania is an official EU candidate country with a steadily improving security situation. Tirana in particular has a low street crime rate and a well-developed hospitality sector for international visitors. Over 15,000 international patients have visited Andent Clinic since 2007 without any recorded personal safety incidents. The areas around the clinic and the partner hotel are central, well-lit, and actively used by locals and visitors at all hours.
