This is the question everybody thinks about and almost nobody asks out loud, usually because they are worried it sounds distrustful.

It is not distrustful. It is the most sensible question in the entire process, and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. So here is how guarantees, follow up and problem solving actually work when your dentist is in another country.

What a Dental Guarantee Actually Covers

A guarantee covers failure of the work itself. In practice:

• An implant that fails to integrate with the bone
• A crown, bridge or veneer that fractures, debonds or fails structurally
• A prosthesis that does not fit correctly or cannot be made to fit

• Damage from an accident or a blow to the face
• Failure caused by untreated gum disease or by skipping maintenance appointments

How Follow Up Works After You Fly Home

There are three layers, and most issues never get past the first one.

Layer One: Remote Review

The overwhelming majority of post treatment questions are resolved from a photograph and a message. Swelling that is not going down as expected. A temporary that has come loose. A tooth that has gone sensitive. A question about medication or about whether something looks normal.

Our team responds directly by WhatsApp and email. This is not a ticketing system and it is not a call centre. Photographs taken on a phone are usually enough for a clinician to tell you whether something is normal healing, something to watch, or something that needs attention now.

Layer Two: Your Local Dentist as a Pair of Hands

You leave Tirana with a complete clinical record: what was done and to which teeth, which implant brand and batch number went where, which materials were used, and your before and after X-rays.

That record means any dentist in the UK, Italy, Germany, France or Spain can read your case and handle a simple issue. Recementing a temporary, adjusting a high spot on a bite, treating a neighbouring tooth, taking an X-ray to check something we have asked them to check. These are routine procedures that do not require the original clinic.

It is worth asking your own dentist in advance whether they are willing to provide routine care for work carried out abroad. Most are. Some are not, and it is better to know that before you travel than after.

Layer Three: Returning to Tirana

Work that has to be redone under guarantee is redone in Tirana, at no treatment cost under the guarantee terms.

The Realistic Risk Picture

Complication rates for implants and ceramic restorations are low, and they are broadly the same in Tirana as in London or Milan, because the biology is the same and the materials frequently come from the same manufacturers.

The difference when treating abroad is not the likelihood of a problem. It is the inconvenience of resolving one.

Which is exactly why case selection matters so much more in dental tourism than it does at home. A clinic that treats a heavy smoker with untreated periodontitis, and grafts aggressively to keep the booking, is building a problem that will surface eighteen months later when the patient is two thousand kilometres away and furious.

A clinic that says no, or says treat the gums first, is protecting you from precisely that scenario. It costs that clinic a booking to say it. That is the point.

What You Need to Do to Hold Up Your End

1. Attend the second trip on schedule. Temporary restorations are not built for long term wear. Provisional bridges left in place for a year fracture, and the tissue underneath suffers.
2. Have a check up and professional clean every six months, or every three to four months if you have implants or a periodontal history. Ask the practice to send us a note if they see anything.
3. Wear the night guard if one was recommended. Most full mouth cases involve grinding somewhere in the history, and the new work wears exactly as the old teeth did if nothing changes.

5. Contact us early when something feels wrong. Small problems answered by photograph stay small problems. The same issue left for four months does not.

Questions to Ask Before Booking Dental Treatment Abroad

• How many years is the guarantee, and on which specific items?
• What exactly voids it?
• Who pays for remedial treatment, and who pays for travel?
• Will I receive full clinical records and an implant passport with batch numbers?
• Is there a named contact for post treatment questions, and what is the response time?
• Can I speak to a patient who had this treatment with you two or three years ago, rather than two months ago?
